Snorkeling and Diving in Bonaire

If you’re wondering what to do in Bonaire, diving and snorkeling are must-try activities. Bonaire’s coastline is a long stretch of coral reef. Most beautiful dive and snorkeling spots are easily accessible by car, which is one of the main reasons why we fell in love with this island. The sea is the perfect place to clear your mind.

The reef varies in different areas. Each dive and snorkeling spot has its own character. Some places are known for their rich underwater life, while others boast beautiful coral gardens. Rays feel at home in sandy-bottom areas, and sea turtles graze on the harder bottoms. Bonaire is one of the best shore diving locations in the world.

Exploring the island

Not only underwater, but also on land, this small island offers a lot of diversity. On the barren plains of the East, you’ll feel like you’re on the prairie. Here you’ll find the cliff coast, where the sea crashes dramatically onto the land. In the North, the landscape is mountainous and green. Explore this part of the island by yourself by taking our Scenic Drive to the North:

The extensive mangrove area is also worth a visit. You can kayak through the old fisherman’s tunnels and admire the surprisingly colorful underwater world during a snorkeling trip. If you enjoy snorkeling, you definitely shouldn’t miss Klein Bonaire, Lac Cai, and Lac Bay.

In the South, you’ll find vast salt pans and the Pekelmeer, the flamingo reserve. Discover the area on your own by taking our Scenic Drive to the Salt Pans:

The far north of Bonaire is uninhabited. Here, you’ll find the breathtaking landscapes of Washington-Slagbaai National Park. A day in Slagbaai still feels like a vacation to us! If you’ve had your fill of nature, you can enjoy the colorful town of Kralendijk during our City Walk. Let your phone be your guide!

Active vacation or Lazy Days in Bonaire?

Do you want to spend a day under a palm tree with a delicious cocktail in hand? You can pamper yourself at one of the small-scale resorts on the west coast. You can also relax and enjoy one of the most beautiful reefs of Bonaire on the paradisiacal white beach of Klein Bonaire. If you prefer an active relaxation, Bonaire offers plenty of options to keep you entertained. You can go sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking, horseback riding, golfing, land-sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and windsailing. There are also numerous beautiful hikes to be enjoyed. For example, climbing Mount Brandaris, the highest peak on the island, is a real challenge, as is exploring one of the many caves.
