The birdwatching tour with HopiBonaire was an incredibly fun experience! As beginners, Sebastian taught us so much about birdwatching and the island of Bonaire.
The tour was fully customizable to our preferences. Sebastian is very flexible and thoughtful in crafting a memorable tour. He has even discovered his own special locations, making the tour truly unique! Above all, it was a great time, and I’m definitely going to continue birdwatching!
In mid-August 2024, we had an amazing and incredibly diverse excursion with Sebastian. We were traveling with two children: one aged 8 and one aged 20, and both of them enjoyed it as much as we did!
Sebastian picked us up at 7:30 am. Thanks to the jet lag, this was no issue at all, and it was still relatively cool outside. Sebastian had a comfortable car with excellent air conditioning. On our way through Kralendijk, we immediately spotted some special birds and donkeys, which we took a moment to admire. We did a “north loop,” and having a guide with us was highly recommended due to the (very) bad roads and poorly marked special locations. Without Sebastian, we would never have found the Indian drawings, the “goat cave,” or Devil’s Rock. We visited the beach at 1000 Steps, and at the end of a short walk, Sebastian had drinks and snacks ready for us to cool down a bit. Along the way, we spotted several unique birds like the Lora and Caracara. The fun part was that Sebastian had his own camera with a huge lens and took stunning photos for us—a wonderful keepsake! He also had binoculars for everyone. Sebastian shared a lot of interesting facts along the way, giving places like Landhuis Karpata much more context and color.
We drove a long stretch offroad—definitely not a pleasant route to tackle yourself in a rental car—but it led to some beautiful spots, like Playa and Saliña Frans. It’s a fantastic place for both bird watchers and snorkelers. We were lucky and even spotted a turtle in the water near us. Once again, Sebastian had drinks and snacks prepared, and he even brought a “freshwater shower” to rinse off the saltwater. What service!
We ended the tour with (many) flamingos, and we even rescued a night heron. We brought it to the bird rescue center, which was a special experience.
It was an incredibly diverse adventure, perfectly organized down to the last detail. We had an amazing time!
Thank you, Sebastian!
Amazing tour to WASHINGTON-SLAGBAAI. We had a fantastic day with Bas. Everything was perfectly organized, and Bas’s extensive knowledge was a huge plus.
Every detail was taken care of to ensure a top-notch experience, binoculars, chairs, tasty food and drinks, a beautiful lunch spot, and a cool snorkeling tour.
But above all, the stunning nature was the highlight. Danki Bas, also for the lovely photos!
Had a wonderful morning with Bas. The tour was tailored to our preferences. Coffee was even included!
Bas showed us not only many birds but also the beautiful spots on the island.
This afternoon, we went on the Gems of the East tour with Sebastian from HopiBonaire, and we had an amazing time. Not only did we see the highlights, but also the lesser-known gems that are more than worth it. Bas had an incredible amount of knowledge, and we learned many fascinating things.
Before, during, and after the tour, we had a fantastic experience. Highly recommended!!
With Bas, I’ve been on tour twice; the first was Gems of the East. I had a wonderful morning and visited places you wouldn’t easily reach with a rental car.
I enjoyed it so much that I booked another afternoon, which completely surprised me. I had indicated beforehand what I had already seen and done on Bonaire, so the tour was customized. And it was amazing! The nature is truly beautiful, and I saw a lot of different birds.
Bas’s knowledge and enthusiasm are very enjoyable and educational. I highly recommend booking a tour (or two) with HopiBonaire.
Today, my husband and I had the pleasure of experiencing the unique private tour “The Magical North” on Bonaire. It was an unforgettable journey filled with hidden gems and treasures that gave us a new perspective on the island.
Sebastian, our guide, enchanted us with his extensive knowledge of the magical and wide vistas, the diverse flora and fauna, and the rich history of Bonaire. We captured unique photo moments, from a nightjar and the blooming kibrahacha tree to a young, still white, flamingo.
Each stop offered a new view of Bonaire, and Sebastian shared fascinating stories and facts at every location. What made this tour extra special were the beautiful photos Sebastian took during our adventure. These photos serve as lasting memories of a day full of adventure and discoveries.
We are grateful for this exceptional experience and highly recommend the “The Magic of the North” tour with Sebastian to anyone who wants to discover Bonaire in a unique way.
We did two tours with Bas and Jessica with our family: Gems of the East and Washington-Slagbaai, both amazing! They tailored the tours to our specific wishes. Additionally, Bas is extremely well-versed in the history of Bonaire, as well as its flora and fauna. He provides a lot of background information and knows the answer to almost every question, giving more meaning to everything you see.
Afterwards, he even sends photos he took during your tour, which completes the experience. Highly recommended!
Escaping the rain in the Netherlands, we decided to book a week on Bonaire. I always bring a camera to take pictures, especially of the birds. But how many birds can you find in a country you don’t know, especially when you’re only there for a week? The solution was obvious: find a guide.
We chose HopiBonaire, and it felt right from the start. No large groups, flexible start times, duration, and which birds to look for – everything could be arranged beforehand. The initial contact was already pleasant.
On the day itself, Sebastian arrived well before the agreed time. We enjoyed a great time chatting and spotting many birds. Sebastian knew exactly where we had the best chances of seeing birds. I would have definitely driven past those spots. And with my regular car, I would have never reached the end of a stone-strewn dirt path: Playa Frans. In the salina behind the beach, we saw many beautiful birds!
After the tour, Sebasrtian sent a thank-you note and included photos of birds he had taken – a nice surprise.
Of course, Sebastian and we managed to spot an osprey. A bird that winters in Bonaire, so the chance of finding one in July wasn’t very high. All in all, HopiBonaire is highly recommended.
We did the private bird tour with Bas and I we LOVED it! We booked with Bas whilst already arrived on the island and Bas made sure to pencil us in two days after our first contact so we were able to get the most out of our experience for the rest of the trip. Whilst not spotting the Osprey during the bird tour (wish list bird but bad time of the year to spot one on Bonaire), Bas told us the spots where to look out for them so we could spot one during the rest of our trip, and we did!
Bas was super knowledgeable about the birds, spotted and pointed them out to us with ease and told us a lot about the rest of the islands history and geology in the process without overloading us with information.
We connected right away with Bas and had such a great experience. Bas also made sure that we had plenty to drink (great coffee for the early morning) and packed nice snacks to enjoy at the most beautiful spots. A solid 12/10 review from us.
My mom and I had a wonderful tour with the very knowledgeable Sebastian. He shared the history of the island (and not the white-washed version) and taught us all about the plants and animals too. He was kind to stop wherever we wanted and moved at our pace. The truck was comfortable and air-conditioned, it was the best way to see the island.
We had a wonderful private tour in the early morning hours to spot the unique birds of Bonaire. Sebastian showed us the special spots, spoke with passion, and captured everything in a beautiful photo report.
The drinks and snacks were also well taken care of. Thank you!
If you want a truly unique tour experience, I would highly recommend this one due to its individual and personal nature. We did the Gems of the East Coast, a beautiful off-road tour that you can’t easily do on your own and isn’t offered by other organizations, making it very unique.
We called last minute for the next day and were even able to be picked up before sunrise. The route itself was stunningly beautiful, and the explanations were extensive and passionate. We were given insights into the geological aspects of the area, knowledge about the fauna and flora, explanations about the historical and cultural background, and a better understanding of the current political landscape. The tour was top-notch, with delicious homemade iced tea and fresh fruit salad. Afterwards, we received beautiful detailed photos of the animals we had seen, which we couldn’t have captured with our phones.
We have done multiple excursions with larger, well-known organizations that work with the hotels, but this is incomparable to what we saw and heard here. It’s a pity we did this tour on the last day of our vacation; otherwise, we would have certainly booked the rest of our excursions here as well. An absolute recommendation in every aspect!
Fantastic tour and day experienced with Bas! Enjoyed the nature and wildlife that Bonaire has to offer! A varied tour through the Washington Slagbaai Park with a refreshing snorkel dive at the right moment and a delicious homemade lunch! Meanwhile, fantastic photos are taken and sent the same day with beautiful memories.
The pace is adjusted to your preference, and since we had some time left at the end of the day, we even got to see some gems of the east coast as a bonus! Don’t hesitate, it’s really a must-do! Thanks again!
What a fantastic morning this was! A very knowledgeable guide who spotted so many birds. Also learned and saw many other interesting facts about the island. Highly recommended!! I saw so many beautiful things. Thank you so much!
We did a customized tour with Bas and Jessica while on a cruise to the ABC Islands. From the minute we were lucky enough to find them on the internet to the end of the tour, they were friendly, accommodating, flexible and very professional. They tailored the tour to the time we were in port and every detail was covered and every question was answered. We felt comfortable, safe and in very good hands. They were also very patient and understanding.
Bonaire is a beautiful island and Bas showed us all it had to offer on a full island tour that included many hidden gems as well as the more well known spots, a delicious homemade lunch with a nicely set table, drinks, snacks and a guided snorkel to end the day. We saw beautiful fish, turtles and even an octopus!
He explained so much about the history of the island and the wildlife. On the island we saw wild donkeys, flamingoes and many beautiful parrots just flying around free! Also saw several iguanas. They even provided binoculars for each of us to see everything up close! They also had planned bathroom breaks that were very much appreciated. They really thought of everything!
Bas is a nature photographer and took beautiful pictures of the wildlife and sites as well as underwater pictures of us snorkeling and the sea animals we saw! He sent them all to us later in a nice email that we could download.
We really can’t say enough about this tour and the job Bas and Jessica do. They love the island and the wildlife and are passionate about what they do and it shows. Our kids, in their twenties, loved it as much as we did! They want you to have the best experience and we did! Truly a highlight of our trip!
We had an exceptionell tour with a guide that is on the one hand so passionate about his guiding and on the other hand very caring about the people who he guides. In the centre of our tour was the national park. We made pictures our self but he had a professionell camera and made sure the whole day that he catches the best impressions and he send them afterwards.
The different stations of the tour had a clear plan but the fantastic guide made it feel so individual on every step, because he opened up on situations and was very flexible to create the best experience possible. Furthermore he catches the view to wild animals that missed our first attention.
Exceptionell is his ability to explain in depth, we had beautiful conversations the whole day. What made us warm our hearts was his passion for protecting nature and animals and interact in a respectful way. We find ourself in this agenda.
Last but not least he guides to spots that are not crowded or even overcrowded. It felt like the most personell experience. It’s not a normal day to go with him, he presents the highlights of the island in a very unique way. We were happy the whole day.
I went on a solo vacation for a week and booked the Slagbaai day tour with Bas and Jessica. I highly recommend HopiBonaire to everyone. The tour was fantastic in one word. The contact was immediately very pleasant, and the communication was quick and well-organized. The organization was well put together, which I noticed in everything.
Since I had seen little of Bonaire, Bas suggested driving to Slagbaai via the west coast so I could also enjoy all the beautiful sights of the North Tour. I also visited a cave, saw Indian drawings, and did the Wasao hike, parts of the Magic of the North tour. It was great that Bas thought along and provided a tailored experience. Bas has extensive knowledge of geology, history, nature, and culture. He shares this in a pleasant way, not forcefully or by just lecturing. He really gauges where there is a need.
Bas picked me up at my hotel with a beautifully polished pick-up truck, boxes of the most delicious snacks and drinks, and a nice camera, with which he takes the best close-ups of Bonaire’s fauna at every stop. I was given binoculars, and thus the day began.
And what a lot I saw of Bonaire! The most beautiful quiet beaches, the best views, and the most special places. We went on a fantastic snorkeling trip, where Bas also took photos and showed me even more of the underwater world. You visit beautiful places that tourists don’t usually go to. I saw many animals up close. And always, at yet another special stop, he would offer a nice drink, delicious cookies, fruit, and a homemade lunch.
It was a dream tour, away from the crowds and completely worry-free. It couldn’t have been better. Really, I recommend everyone book a tour with HopiBonaire. They deliver quality and individuality. And if they are fully booked, just get in touch; there might still be a possibility.
I give them 5 stars but would rather give more! A solid 10 for this unforgettable day! Bas and Jessica, thank you very much!
I had a great private tour while visiting Bonaire last week! Bas was incredibly knowledgeable about the island and I would have had great difficulty trying to navigate that terrain without an experienced guide like him. He shared the histories behind everything and I found it very educational.
When he found out I had lost my phone the prior day, he brought his camera and took (stunning) photos for me so that I wouldn’t miss out on the memories of my tour. I enjoyed the personal touches from his wife, with homemade iced tea and baked goods throughout our stops on the tour. He was also very accommodating with my schedule when I needed to have the tour be a bit shorter, but still made sure I got to see everything.
I would highly recommend HopiBonaire for your tour needs!
I booked a full day with Sebastian and enjoyed the excursion very much! We did a Roundtrip all over the island and saw the sun set behind hills full of cacti. Sebastian knew a lot and explained me about history and ecology of bonaire.
He piked me up in the hotel and brought me back in the evening. He offered water, coke and fresh fruits and cubcakes. He made pictures, which he send me via we-transfer. Thank you so much! A day, I ll never forget! I highly recommend this private tour to learn and see about this island! And all for no money. I was at Aruba and Curacao too, the tours there cost 3-4 times more!
Thank you Sebastian! I would book a tour again next time when I retur to Bonaire!
From the very beginning, we had great contact with HopiBonaire. The booking process was very smooth and clear. Next to English, the guide speaks Dutch, which was most important for us. Questions via WhatsApp were answered quickly.
On the day of the tour, we had nothing but praise for Bas’s expertise, enthusiasm, patience, and the beautiful photos he took with his professional camera. The care provided was excellent, with plenty of drinking water, cola, etc., and each of us received a cupcake, followed later by fresh fruit. At the end of the wonderful tour, we even enjoyed a glass of wine with some snacks. Extremely thoughtful.
Thank you, Sebastian, for the unforgettable and impressive day. A day to never forget. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about Bonaire with the “Mesmerizing Bonaire” tour.
My wife and I booked a full day tour with Sebastian and greatly enjoyed our excursion to the Washington-Slagbaai Park. Sebastian is a fantastic host and very knowledgeable about the history, ecology and geology of the island. He is an expert photographer to boot! There was not one aspect of our trip that I would change. HopiBonaire is highly recommended!
I did the Washington Slagbaai tour with Sebastian and had an amazing day. It’s great how Sebastian knows all the fun stories and facts and takes you to hidden spots!
I also went snorkeling with Sebastian’s guidance, and it was an awesome experience, definitely one of the highlights of my vacation! Everything was well taken care of from start to finish!
We had a great day with Sebastian. He took wonderful photos and shared them with us afterward. Great picnic lunch, snacks, very friendly and knowledgeable of the island, its history and wildlife. One of the best tours I ever experienced.
We were part of an all-day customized 4-person tour with Sebastian (Bas) at Washington-Slagbaai National Park and surrounding areas. We had a fabulous time.
My husband & I were especially interested in flora/fauna (especially birds). Sebastian had extensive knowledge that he conveyed very clearly. He impressively followed up on the couple of species that he didn’t immediately recognize and relayed very interesting information about all other aspects of the places we saw & Bonaire in general such as history and geology.
Sebastian easily modified the tour based on weather conditions and provided delicious beverages, snacks & lunch along the way. My husband was very appreciative of Sebastian’s extra attention during the snorkeling portion of our tour. The day after the tour, Sebastian sent some great photos. We highly recommend this tour!
Wow! Just Wow! Four of us did the Washington Park all day tour. We were interested in birding, snorkeling and just a good understanding of Bonaire and the National Park. Sebastian (Bas) did not let us down.
He picked us up at 6:30 AM and got us back home at about 5:30. The day was packed from end to end with everything we had hoped for and much more. The home cooked meal was excellent. Bas does it all and doesn’t expect his clients to do anything but enjoy. And that, enjoy, we most certainly did.
He has several other tours. When we return, we will most certainly do at least one of the others. If you are planning on going to Bonaire and want a great tour with a great leader, then just go to HopiBonaire. You can thank me later.
After living on the island for 4 years, it was finally time for a tour with Hopibonaire through the park. I have driven this route many times with family and also with a cycling group on Sundays. So, we had set the bar quite high for our fantastic guides. And Bas and Jessica did an incredibly good job for Germaine and me.
A full day filled with interesting facts, pieces of history, knowledge of nature, and the beautiful birds at Pos Mangel. Bas and Jessica beautifully adapt to the needs of the customer, so Bas asked us if we wanted to start with a hike. As athletes, we couldn’t say no to that. Plenty of water for everyone and very interesting facts to learn, especially things I really didn’t know.
It was Germaine’s first time in the park, so our guides had to take that into account, of course. Bas and Jessica did this with a healthy dose of humor!
All in all: a day we would love to do again with Hopi Bonaire. Delicious food, plenty of water and other soft drinks available (even homemade iced tea), the snorkeling… the list goes on.
Keep it up, dear people! One tip: we missed some information about cannibalistic hamsters…
We had a great day touring around most of Bonaire looking at the most gorgeous landscapes! Our tour focused on my husband’s photography interest, and a bit of my snorkling fun.
Sebastian made sure we were enjoying everything he was showing us. You could tell after each stop, he was thinking of something else that would excite us. Even with us having our own camera, he took pictures of different things, and emailed us the pictures afterwards.
He picked a section of beach where only a few people were near to enjoy a delicious lunch that was included with the tour. He made sure we would get back to the cruise ship on time.
I would always recommend this company, and plan to see them again when we make our way back to Bonaire.
What a wonderful birdwatching excursion we had under the expert guidance of Bas. Completely tailored to our preferences and, despite having been to Bonaire many times, to unfamiliar places for us. And we spotted birds that we had not seen here before. Bas: thank you very much for the enjoyable morning.
A day on the road with Bas (HopiBonaire) as a private guide, a great day !! What are we going to do, Bas asked during our first conversation, an existing tour or something customized. It became a tailor-made day.
Starting at Playa Frans and then the big loop in Washington-Slagbaai, all in all a day trip of about 9 hours. Bas knows the area like the back of his hand and shows you the most beautiful spots while telling a lot about the history of the island. The tour included lunch and drinks, Bas said and that was the case, coffee, fresh fruit, soft drinks and a delicious lunch (homemade salads). Well arranged Bas !!
We did a super fun and enjoyable photography tour with Bas from HopiBonaire. We went off-road with him, which takes you to places you wouldn’t easily find on your own, discovering “things” that you might not come across during a short vacation.
Bas provided us with a lot of information about the island, and the bodily needs were taken care of either! I can recommend a tour with HopiBonaire to anyone who wants to see more of Bonaire.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of experiencing a tour with HopiBonaire, led by the exceptional guide, Bas. From start to finish, the journey was nothing short of remarkable. Bas’s enthusiasm and captivating storytelling truly enriched the experience, making it both informative and engaging.
The tour itself was of the highest quality, with every detail meticulously taken care of to ensure comfort and enjoyment. Bas expertly navigated through the island, allowing ample time to soak in the breathtaking views and discover the hidden gems scattered across Bonaire’s landscape.
One of the highlights of the tour was Bas’s flexibility and willingness to adapt to my schedule, ensuring that we made the most of our time together. His extensive knowledge of the island, its geology, history, culture, flora, and fauna was impressive, as he effortlessly answered every question and shared fascinating stories along the way.
I was particularly amazed by the diverse array of bird species we encountered during the tour, including a rare sighting of an owl, thanks to Bas’s keen eye for wildlife. The lunch break atop a scenic hilltop, with panoramic views of Bonaire, provided a serene moment to appreciate the island’s natural beauty.
Additionally, I appreciated Bas’s thoughtful gesture of capturing high-quality photographs throughout the tour, preserving precious memories of the experience. It’s clear that Bas goes above and beyond to ensure his guests have a memorable and enjoyable time.
In conclusion, my tour with HopiBonaire and Bas exceeded all expectations, leaving me eager to return for another adventure. I wholeheartedly recommend HopiBonaire to anyone seeking a high-quality and unforgettable experience on the island.
A full day out with Hopi Bonaire in the north of Bonaire. What an experience. We visited beautiful places where delicious treats were presented every time.
After a beautiful walk, we were served coffee/tea with cookies at a stunning viewpoint. Fresh fruit at the blowhole, and a delightful beach lunch with tasty couscous salad.
Bas knows a lot about the nature and history of the island. We saw many birds. A beautiful bird spot at a spring where Bas provided chairs for us to comfortably watch the birds come to drink.
We also enjoyed snorkeling. Bas even brought water for rinsing off after snorkeling.
A top day with a great guide and excellent care. Highly recommended! Bas takes care of everything, you just need to enjoy the beautiful nature.
My husband and I had the best private tour we’ve ever had, thanks to Sebastian! Never would we have had the chance to see as much as we saw and learn as much as we learned if we had booked with a group tour. For every question we had, he had an answer.
It was a full day and he made sure that we had sufficient bathroom stops, as well as beverages and snacks. We ended a beautiful day by watching a beautiful sunset. We so appreciate all the photos Sebastian took of us and shared with us.
Thank you Sebastian! We will return to Bonaire. When we do return, we will book another tour with you.
We had a fantastic private tour with Hopi Bonaire. We saw all the birds we wanted to spot and so much more.
Bas takes you to the most beautiful hidden spots of Bonaire, knows a lot to tell and also provides some treats for on the way! Great idea if you want to enjoy the versatile nature of Bonaire!
We loved our guided tour with Bas and HopiBonaire! Bas managed to fill our 4 hours with a wide range of experiences. We saw many birds, sea turtles close in to the shore, pre-Columbian cave art, and even enjoyed a short hike up to a beautiful lookout.
Bas brought delicious fresh fruit and coffee and was a terrific guide and host. We highly recommend him and HopiBonaire
Had an absolutely fantastic birdwatching excursion with Bas! He’s a delightful man, incredibly knowledgeable about Bonaire’s flora and fauna, and has thought of everything. Coffee with cookies while watching pelicans forage, a refreshing drink when it gets warm, fruit salad midway through the excursion. He takes you to all the beautiful spots you wouldn’t know about yourself and lets you completely dictate the trip. If you want to stay somewhere longer, no problem. Highly recommended if you’re in Bonaire!
Today we did a birdwatching tour. It was really fantastic. We got very tasty ice tea and cookies. We were taken to beautiful places, which we would not have found ourselves. Afterwards, we received beautiful photos of the birds we had seen. In the meantime, also learned a lot about the country and nature. 10/10 that I would go again.
During my vacation in Bonaire, I wanted to experience the beauty of Washington Natural Park. The largest natural park on the island. After conducting some research online, I decided to take a private day trip with Hopi Bonaire to explore this natural park. The day trip starts early in the morning and lasts until late afternoon. The communication and information provided by Hopi Bonaire regarding the reservation and the day trip were clear and efficient.
I had a wonderful day trip with Hopi Bonaire. Sebastian, who was my guide, is an enthusiastic guide with a passion for the island and extensive knowledge about its nature, flora, fauna, and history. He introduced me to some interesting historical areas of Bonaire. He was also very flexible and receptive to my specific interests regarding the day trip.
I also enjoyed the organic meal served during lunch, which was included in the day trip. Sebastian also took some beautiful photos during the day trip, which he provided to me afterward. So if you want to experience Washington Park in Bonaire and you are looking for the right guide, then Hopi Bonaire is an excellent choice.
Last week (8/3), my wife and I went on a customized trip with Bas. Throughout a full day, we visited Washington Slagbaai NP and adjacent areas. On one hand, to become familiar with the areas and on the other hand, to search for all the different birds present, such as the Lora.
It turned out to be a very successful trip, where besides the information about the park and the island, we also lacked nothing in terms of care with coffee, soft drinks, lunch, etc. and transportation. A particularly successful day!
DEFINITELY DO IT!! We did 2 tours with HopiBonaire.
On Tuesdays, Washington Slagbaai National Park, and on Thursdays, a “customized” tour, The Magical North. Again, Sebastian showed us the most beautiful spots. The rugged coast, rock drawings, Devil’s Mouth, The 1000 Steps, beautiful views with lots of information about the (formation of) Bonaire. To top it off, a sunset while enjoying a drink.
Bas, they were 2 beautiful days with great service. Thank you for the photos you sent in the evening and the pleasant way of contacting us about booking, etc.
Best of luck with HopiBonaire.
The 2 ladies who didn’t want to walk 😊
If you want to discover the treasures of Bonaire, you don’t have to look any further and you definitely should book a tour with HopiBonaire. We did the surprising “Gems of the East” Tour.
Guide and photographer Sebastian is very passionate and shares interesting (background) stories and historical facts about Bonaire with a lot of passion and enthusiasm. His knowledge about the flora, fauna, and history of the island is impressive.
The off-road private tour is very diverse, and you visit various types of places that you wouldn’t easily find on your own. The snacks and drinks are also very well taken care of.
We are much richer for this super beautiful experience and have learned a lot from it.
What a joy we had on our customized tour, curated by our enthusiastic guide Sebastian! A trip around the South with a wonderful guided snorkel with turtles!! A well-organized journey with a beautiful history of this magnificent island with its flora and fauna!
Sebastian, once again, thank you for these beautiful experiences!
We had a fantastic day at Hopi Bonaire, a day we will never forget! We wanted to go to the National Park, the guide Bas knew a lot to tell, had a lot of knowledge and showed us the most beautiful spots, spots where we ourselves would never come even on the way there. The day was carefully put together, taking into account our wishes and attention to detail.
We had binoculars in the car, Bas took beautiful photos, and we were well taken care of! A delicious lunch, tasty snacks, and drinks at the most beautiful spots! Occasionally, we also stopped to spot beautiful birds, all very surprising.
We snorkeled with Bas, and he took beautiful underwater photos. We received all the photos.
In short, the most beautiful day of the holiday, really wouldn’t want to miss it!
We booked a tour with HopiBonaire for ½ day of birding. We were picked up at our resort in a comfortable 4-wheel drive truck. Our tour guide, Sebastian, was very knowledgeable about not only birds of the island but also history, geography and other fascinating facts about Bonaire. We rode through neighborhoods to see Parrots, along the water and inland to experience the ocean, the limestone bluffs, plants and wildlife. Sebastian took us off-road which afforded views of more species. We then sat at a salinia and watched water birds wander by.
Sebastian was thoughtful and asked if we were up for a hike in various places, or wanted to stop to get a better look or view of a location or bird. He is an excellent photographer, and shared his pictures with us the same day as the tour. We saw many species of birds, and learned a lot about the island.
Sebastian provided us with unexpected extras including drinks, snacks, and opportunities for breaks. We enthusiastically recommend booking with Hopibonaire for bird and/or island tours!
We did the full day Washington-Slagbaai National Park Tour with Bas. It was absolutely amazing!
Bas picked us up from our Airbnb. He spent the day making sure we saw and did everything we could possibly want in the park! Bas is a former teacher and it shows that he still loves to educate others. He talked about the history and nature of Bonaire. It was such a fun and interesting day!
Bas kept us hydrated and fed throughout the day. We had yummy snacks and a delicious lunch that he prepared for us. During the entire day Bas took pictures-he is an incredible photographer! He sent the pictures to us after the trip. It was nice to be able to enjoy the day without having to worry about getting the perfect photo – he did that for us!
We have been on tours in many countries and this one was one of our favorites by far! We highly recommend HopiBonaire and their private tours!
On our tour of the Washington-Slagbaai National Park, Sebastian provided many unique insights into the nature and history of Bonaire. During our day we were treated to yummy snacks and delicious lunch at the plantation. He provided a guided snorkel and took expert pictures for us through out the day capturing the birds, iguanas and marine phenomena.
If you are of a curious mind, I encourage you to checkout Hopi Bonaire’s thoughtful blog.
During our vacation in Bonaire, we connected with Bas and Jessica from HopiBonaire and booked an off-road private tour with them.
During the 3-hour tour, Bas shared his knowledge with great passion about the many birds and other animals that inhabit the island. This was interspersed with stories about the rich history of Bonaire. A fantastic experience to discover the south of Bonaire in this way!!
Thank you Bas, also for the beautiful photos you shared with us!
Great beautiful tour, the Washington Slagbaai. Bas knows how to present it very well, knows the beautiful spots, knows a lot about the area, adapts to your wishes, and he takes very nice photos. Highly recommended if you want to see and hear more about this special nature park.
What an amazing tour we had with Hopibonaire. Completely tailored to our wishes. During our photography tour, Bas took us to the desired locations in search of the animals on our wishlist. And he did not disappoint us. Highly recommended!!!!
One of the best tours I’ve been on! You really get the best of Bonaire, especially on the East side 😉. I would definitely recommend! Thank you for the great service, it was an amazing day!!
Had an amazing tour with HopiBonaire! Bas listens to your personal preferences and tailors his tour accordingly. Everything is taken care of, from pick-up and drop-off to snacks along the way 🙂
At 7:30 AM, we were picked up from the resort by Bas from HopiBonaire for a day trip to Washington Slagbaai National Park. We had a bit of an idea of what to expect, as we had read about it on the website. But from the moment we met Bas and he asked if we had any specific wishes and we expressed them, we understood that it would truly be ‘our day’.
We got to know Bonaire in various ways. From history, birds, trees, flamingos, butterflies, bees, fish, the interaction of all elements in the park, from eating and being eaten, and much more. Bas led us on foot, by car, and swimming through the national park. At a beautiful spot on the coast, we were served a delicious lunch with all sorts of homemade products. This was really great.
Snorkeling with Bas in one of the most beautiful bays of the park was one of the highlights. He guided us through the coral and showed us beautiful fish. The refreshing shower afterwards and the delicious fruit salad allowed us to continue our adventure.
The next day, we received a message from Bas with all the photos of ‘our day’ as a tangible memory. What a day, what moments of happiness, unforgettable. It was TOP! Thank you Bas!
We booked a private tour with Hopibonaire during our vacation in Bonaire. We opted for the full-day tour to Washington Slagbaai.
During the drive to the national park, our guide Bas asked us what else we would be visiting during our vacation in Bonaire, so he could optimize the tour and make the most of our day tour. It was a fantastic day, we didn’t get bored for a second. We gained a lot of knowledge about Bonaire.
Bas is a wealth of knowledge and perfectly prepared to pamper you with facts, snacks, and drinks all day long. A super delicious fresh lunch was provided that we could enjoy with a fantastic view.
We were super satisfied that we booked this tour with Hopibonaire and we can recommend it to everyone! Thanks for the fantastic day, Bas.
Gems of the East is the Bonaire tour for advanced adventurers :-). Bas takes you off-road and shows you the fascinating nature of the island. He is deeply involved in the preservation of this unique piece of nature. He shares a lot of information and has ample knowledge to answer your questions.
Highly recommended for those who want something different and venture off the beaten path. Well-organized tour and entertaining. Definitely worth it.
Sebastian was an exceptional tour guide, but that word doesn’t do it justice, as it felt like having a friendly local take you around the island. You feel really special on the tour because Sebastian cares about your wants and interests and will work with you to create a personalized tour.
He is exceptionally knowledgeable in the history, culture, and wildlife of the island, able to answer any questions you may have about anything. He went above and beyond by providing a homecooked picnic that he set-up on the beach with a spectacular view.
He also takes amazing pictures throughout the day, that captures the memories made, and he also has an expertise of taking superb animal shots. We loved looking through the album and remembering the amazing time we had on Bonaire.
What an amazing day we had in Slagbaai Park with Bas. A complete day with delicious food and drinks, but above all, a wealth of facts and knowledge. He knows how to find all the beautiful spots in the park, rugged sea, blowholes, and lovely coves. He can also identify all sorts of birds (And he recognizes them all!).
Bas takes you on a relaxed journey for a whole day, and you feel wonderfully pampered. Chairs are set up, a good lunch spot is chosen, and he even takes beautiful photos along the way. As the icing on the cake, he took us on a guided snorkel tour with a camera. So now we also have fantastic underwater photos.
In short, it’s not a cheap trip, but it was more than worth it. Bonaire is beautiful, and Bas knows how to convey that magnificently!
Had an incredibly enjoyable day in the National Park. Despite the weather (which prevented the planned climb of the Brandaris), had a very fun, beautiful, and informative day with Bas.
The morning “pick-up,” the cup of coffee, the tapas/snacks, and the lunch—everything was well thought out.
The little extras, the explanations provided at the stops, the extra time taken, and the photos (taken by Bas). This makes the tour not just a moment but also a memory.
HopiBonaire, thank you!!
Together with Bas, we drove to Washington Slagbaai National Park (WSNP) to walk and/or climb the Subì Brandaris together.
I have seen a lot of the island of Bonaire on my own, but I never dared to walk and/or climb the Subì Brandaris alone. It remained on my bucket list for a long time, but after searching for someone willing to do this with me, I ended up at Hopi Bonaire. After a pleasant contact, it was possible to drive to Brandaris together on the weekend.
Bas picked me up at the agreed time in his beautiful Toyota Hilux pick-up. We chatted all the way to WSNP. There were no moments of silence. We talked a lot about the island. Once we arrived at the park, we drove to the Subì Brandaris. During the walk, Bas told a lot about the geology of the Brandaris location. Bas had thought of everything. During the walk, he also brought tasty snacks. On the way back to the exit gate, we also stopped at Boka Slagbaai, where we had a nice can of Coca Cola. Finally, Bas dropped me off neatly at home and thanked me for the enjoyable walk.
In short: if you are alone and looking for someone to do a trusted private tour with, then Hopi Bonaire is for you. In my case, this was definitely worth repeating.
Thanks, Bas!
We did the Washington Slagbaai tour with Hopibonaire. It was fantastic in one word! We had a beautiful day where Bas picked us up from the hotel and drove us around the park. Because it had rained heavily in the morning and it was uncertain if the entire park was open, Bas, in consultation with us, adjusted the plan, and we started the first part by walking through the park. This allowed us to experience the park in a completely different way and see many extraordinary animals. Afterward, we continued the tour by car.
The tour was exceptionally well-organized, and everything was taken care of. There was food and drinks at the right moment, a snack, a refreshing drink, and even a “shower” with fresh water (from a water bottle crafted by Bas). You really didn’t have to think about anything, and the day flew by before we knew it (without feeling too short).
As our 10-year-old son puts it: I really liked that Bas told us so much about the animals; I was actually surprised by how much he knew (which is a big compliment since our son is a walking encyclopedia thanks to Freek)!
Fourteen days in the Caribbean, and the day we spent on Bonaire with Jessica and Bas was the best of all. It was Christmas Day and these two wonderful people shared both their holiday and their island 🏖️with us in a day filled with beauty and wonder as we travelled the length and breadth of the island and snorkelled in crystal clear waters. The day was filled with incredible sights of both natural and historical significance, and each was accompanied with exactly the right amount of information to make each experience more special.
The planning and communication prior to our tour date was immaculate. We were met at the cruise port right on time at 9am. We had a message the evening before with a photo of the meeting point, which was extremely helpful.
Over the next 7 hours, we visited plantation ruins and learned of the tragic history of slavery on Bonaire. We saw wildlife in places of natural beauty which we’d have not found on our own. We saw ancient indigenous drawings, remarkable in their original locations. We had a delicious homemade picnic lunch on a secluded beach, after spending an hour or more on a guided reef snorkel.
The day was well planned, down to the intermittent restroom breaks and the binoculars available for each of us. Cold drinks and refreshing snacks were available from a cooler all day.
I could go on…but let’s leave it at this. Your visit to Bonaire will be so much better if you take a tour with Hopi Bonaire ♥️ As a bonus, both professional grade nature photos and underwater photos were shared with us the next day!
Our other tour was canceled, and that’s how we ended up at Hopi Bonaire for a complete tour of Bonaire. Looking back, we are so happy about that! The contact during booking was easily established.
Our guide Bas turned out to be a history, biology, and geography teacher all in one, and he shared information throughout the entire tour that added real value. Bas’s delivery was relaxed and captivating.
We literally explored every nook and cranny of the island, places you wouldn’t reach with a group tour! At popular spots, Bas drove a short distance further so you wouldn’t have to follow a “herd” but see the same sights from a different perspective, which was great! The island displays astonishing diversity, and with Bas’s explanations, it was a beautiful and comprehensive discovery with excellent value for money.
The finale at a coastal blowhole and the subsequent sunset made it complete. Bas also sent some homemade photos afterward, a nice bonus. In short, if you don’t book this, you’re really missing out!
We’ve already booked the Washington Slagbaai tour with Hopi Bonaire at home and because we enjoyed this tour so much, we immediately added the Gems of the East tour.
With Bas as a private guide, you’ll experience an unforgettable day. We’ve seen so much, from blowholes, caracaras, iguanas, turtles, donkeys and of course, flamingos!
Bas has extensive knowledge and is enthusiastic. You visit places you wouldn’t normally go on your own. It’s also great that you don’t have to drive, allowing you to fully enjoy nature. Off-road Bas ensures that you navigate safely with the pickup. At the same time, he points out everything happening around you and takes beautiful photos, not only of the animals but also underwater during snorkeling.
During the excursion, you’re treated to a delicious lunch with a homemade salad, drinks, and tapenades. In short, a top-notch recommendation!
Embarking on a private tour with Sebastian (Bas) to Washington Slagbaai National Park marked a highlight during our second visit to Bonaire. Despite considering other tour companies, we were drawn to Hopi Bonaire for their outstanding reviews, Instagram posts and the prompt, courteous responses received when making pre-booking inquiries.
Before our tour, Bas informed us about the park’s conditions and closures. Fortunately, all roads had just reopened on the day of our excursion, leading to a thrilling and muddy ride to the initial two stops. Bas’s enthusiasm for Bonaire, its history and its wildlife illuminated our journey, providing a wealth of insightful information.
Hopi Bonaire offered a diverse array of beverages and snacks at each stop. The homemade lunch provided surpassed expectations in both accommodation and taste. Adding an unexpected and appreciated touch to our experience, Bas skillfully captured memorable moments with his camera both above and below water.
While on the island, we also followed Hopi Bonaire’s scenic drive tips for both the north and south, and the experiences did not disappoint. We even met Bas again at one of the snorkeling spots!
We wholeheartedly recommend choosing Hopi Bonaire for any of their offered island tours. Bas and the entire Hopi team exceeded our expectations, ensuring a day filled with exploration, knowledge, and culinary delights. Our sincere thanks to Bas and the Hopi team for crafting an unforgettable experience!
Cheers to 2024! Keep up the good work, and may you achieve all your goals and aspirations. Here’s to new opportunities, growth, and positive moments in the coming year!
We had the BEST time ever with Hopi Bonaire. We absolutely loved the island and Sebastian was extremely knowledgeable and instilled us with his love of nature. Beyond his patience and positive attitude, he had incredible energy and just the right temperament for our family. He is an excellent photographer and took the most beautiful pictures. He gave us a great grasp of the rich history of Bonaire.
We enjoyed all aspects of the tour from the North to the South and the magical East Coast. We loved swimming at Salt Pier and seeing the kite surfers at Lac Bai. The blow holes of the East and the otherworldly desert landscape have our heart.
We now have memories to last a lifetime and we will be forever grateful for the experience. You will be in great hands with Hopi Bonaire. I am confident there is no private tour outfitter better to share the treasures of this amazing place.
We had the most outstanding day with Bas on a tour around Bonaire – never rushed, time to sit and pause at stunning locations and take them in properly, with chairs brought for the purpose (and drinks, and fruit, and homemade cakes – wonderfully thoughtful touches!).
On these tours you will get to see places that you would never otherwise reach, experience the huge variety of the island, and learn about what one sees – it is a privilege to be guided by someone so knowledgeable and passionate about the history, the nature (especially the wonderful birds) and the landscape of the island.
Bas sent us the pictures he had been taking during the day of the astonishing wildlife!
A photography day tour: It was in one word, SPECTACULAR.
Bas is an extremely passionate guide, dedicated to his craft. Very helpful and provides a lot of advice that you can use. Knows the most unique spots on the island and their corresponding backgrounds, with room for your own input as well. Witnessed incredibly beautiful spots. Hats off.
And as if that’s not enough, you absolutely won’t miss anything when it comes to refreshments. Coffee with cookies, fruit, freshly made couscous, homemade tapenades, with a drink of your choice or even homemade iced tea. And to enjoy all of this, there were cups, plates, utensils, napkins, and chairs with a little table.
In short, a true recommendation. Regards, Mathé and Betty
Made a super beautiful and enjoyable tour through the Washington Slagbaai Park. Many thanks to our guide Bas, who knows what customer service means!
We had a super beautiful and special tour. Bas explains everything with great enthusiasm and fun. We drove around the entire island and saw a lot as a result. Highly recommended. We are glad we chose HopiBonaire.
Since Slagbaai was closed, we made an alternative private tour with HopiBonaire.
Bas showed us many highlights of the island, including snorkeling at Playa Frans, a walk with a fantastic view over Gotomeer and in the background Slagbaai, a beautiful view over the town of Rincon, the surf at the Spelonk lighthouse and the blow hole, ancient Indian cave drawings, but also the nature and the animals that live on the island.
The day was fantastically arranged with a homemade lunch on the way, lots of explanation about the history of the island, and anecdotes.
Bas also took beautiful photos of snorkeling and the other highlights we saw that day. Definitely recommended for anyone who wants to get to know the island during a fun day out.
We had a fantastic time, our guide (Sebastian) picked us up just outside the cruise port at the exact place he said he would. He took us bird watching around Bonaire to places we would not have found, he took us to a lake for a rest stop and provided refreshments there and then off to do more bird watching, we went to the salt pans where we had another refreshment stop by a lovely quiet beach.
Here’s a list of some of the birds we saw on our trip. Caracara, Blackfaced Grasquit, Bananaquit, Yellow Warbler, Short billed Dowitcher, Black necked Stilt, Tri Coloured Heron, Reddish Egret, Venezuelan Troupial, Yellow billed Cuckoo and many more birds too. A bird watchers paradise.
We highly recommend this trip.
We went on an excursion with Bas from HopiBonaire. The beautiful stories about the history of the island to identifying every little bird we heard. Nothing was too much. His passion and the calm he radiated were amazing.
We discussed together where we wanted to go. Due to the weather conditions, we couldn’t go to the Washington Slagbaai National Park, and we also had the choice to cancel the day.
On Bas’s advice, he took us to places that were otherwise inaccessible to us. At the end of the excursion, we encountered a large group of parrots (Lora’s). That was the icing on the cake.
We enjoyed it with a capital ‘E’. If you don’t want to be in the hustle and bustle of mass tourism, book your excursion with HopiBonaire. Highly recommended. Next time again with HopiBonaire.
A must do tour for your trip to Bonaire!
Bas (Sebastian) was an incredible guide. He had so much knowledge to share about the history of the island, about the nature & animals, and took us to see so many unique places. We toured the North, east and west coast all in one day!
We started the day off with a short hike that wasn’t too strenuous. The views were beautiful & at the top of the hike we stopped for a snake. Bas was so sweet & brought iced tea, coffee, hot tea and cookies.
He also made us homemade lunch (quinoa salad, tapenade, hummus, egg salad, crackers & so many drink options) which was really delicious. He even brought lounge chairs for us to relax in the shade and enjoy.
Later we did snorkelling, visited a historic site with native cave paintings that were thousands of years old, saw plenty of flamingos and natural lakes, and finished the day with a visit to one of the most incredible sea views I’ve ever seen & drank wine near a field of cactuses.
My favourite parts of the tour were Bas’s extensive knowledge on the island & his excitement of wanting to share it with us. He also took pictures with a professional camera with a telephoto lens to share with us so we could have good photos of some of the animals we saw that were hard to see.
So glad we did this tour at the beginning of our trip because now we have so much knowledge as we continue the rest of the week.
Thank you Bas for such a special day!
Our family of 3 booked a private tour with Sebastian (Bas!) for our first full day of a week long trip in Bonaire. I had looked at some other your companies but chose Hopi Bonaire because of their great reviews and quick kind communication when I reached out with questions before booking!
On the day of our tour, the national park was unfortunately partially closed due to heavy rainfall – but that did not stop us from having the most amazing day. Bas pivoted our itinerary and we ended up seeing SOOO much on the island. Bas is so passionate about Bonaire and the wildlife and is a wealth of information so we felt like we learned so much from him in our day together.
Hopi was so accommodating with the food and my sister being gluten free, at each stop Bas also had all sorts of varieties of beverages and snacks and lunch was homemade and so tasty.
Bas also took awesome photos for us on his telescopic lens camera which was such a nice surprise!
Highly highly recommend picking Hopi Bonaire if you’re going to do a tour of the island, you won’t regret it! Thank you Bas and the Hopi team 💗
I had an amazing and unforgettable tour with HopiBonaire. This is definitively a trip that I recommend!
Originally I have booked this private tour in order to explore the Washington Slagbaai National Park. Due to a stuck pick-up truck in the National Park (yes that exists!), the NP has only been opened partially and the original tour could not take place. HopiBonaire kept me well informed even before the tour and pointed out alternative routes. I opted for an alternative and I even believe, it was the better option 🙂
During the whole day, I have explored many hidden gems on the island. If I would have to choose my personal higlight of the many things I have seen (viewpoint, snorkeling, blowhole, ancient drawings, lighthouse etc.), it would be the flamingos and the many other birds we observed in the salina (without nobody else). Bas is great company and gives you many insights into culture and history as well.
What a TOP day we experienced. Although our day at Washington Slagbaai couldn’t go ahead due to the heavy rain (so we have to come back), Bas quickly adapted, and we changed it to an island tour. We were even able to tick off some Geo-cache points. Fantastic.
We had a delicious homemade lunch on the way (made by Jessica and Bas 😋) in a beautiful spot. We saw so much at a nice pace and learned a lot about the island.
A super ending with snorkeling with the turtles (a wish came true) 🤩 😃 and a day later, we received beautiful photos of that day. So happy with them.
With HopiBonaire, you don’t just take a standard island tour. Bas takes you to the most enchanting places. It’s pure magic. You could never discover these on your own because they are completely off-road. Bas has extensive knowledge of both the history and the fauna and flora of Bonaire. Along the way, there’s also time for a snack and a drink in a relaxed atmosphere. And to top it off, you can enjoy a beautiful sunset at the end of the ride. Highly recommended.
We had a fantastic private tour with HopiBonaire! We had chosen “The Magical North” tour. Bas had a lot to share about the island, the history of Bonaire, and the animals we encountered along the way.”
In early October 2023, had a wonderful day. Started the Slagbaai tour in the morning. Was picked up from the hotel. The experience and knowledge of Bas are absolutely top-notch. He has so much to share, and if you have questions, he draws from a vast wealth of knowledge.
Visited beautiful locations and was well taken care of. Coffee, fresh fruit, cold water, or anything else you’d like. Suddenly, you find yourself on top of the rocks enjoying a lovely cup. The lunch was fantastic as well, in a beautiful location with a neatly set table.
Then, a lovely snorkeling tour with some stunning photos taken. Finally, the last stop, and even an afternoon drink was thought of. Visited a multitude of beautiful locations, all at your own pace and according to your interests. A completely tailor-made tour.
Wishing everyone an incredibly enjoyable time with this fantastic Slagbaai tour. I say, go for it!
What a wonderful experience to discover the island with the help of Bas. In addition to the excellent care, delicious lunch, and drinks, Bas taught us a lot about all the beauty, including the birds, of the island. Definitely recommended if you want to explore the island in comfort!
What an experience! We were promptly greeted in the morning to embark on our adventure. By the time we reached the park entrance, we had already stopped to do some bird watching, and Bas offered to take us to see the Indian drawings in the afternoon.
After a quick check by the rangers, we started the Lagadishi walking trail. Bas shared a wealth of information about the history of Bonaire and its inhabitants! He had detailed explanations and answers to practically all our questions.
After this awe-inspiring hike, we got back in the car and continued exploring the park. Bas used the surroundings to illustrate his stories in response to every question we had. It was a delightful and relaxed way to learn and marvel at the beauty of Bonaire. Bas knew the best spots for taking photos of us, and even more beautiful spots where we took short breaks.
We didn’t have a chance to get thirsty because Bas ensured we stayed well-hydrated and had a full stomach. The lunch was at another fantastic spot, and it was the most extensive and delicious meal we had during our vacation!
Snorkeling was like an expedition of discovery, and we were amazed as Bas repeatedly dove underwater to capture stunning photos.
The most beautiful aspect of a tour with HopiBonaire is that it changes the way you look at your surroundings entirely. Birds are no longer just colorful creatures; they have names and distinctive behaviors, which they often demonstrate to emphasize the story. It’s like being a kid in a candy store, with Bas letting you taste all the flavors that are your favorite! Next time, we will definitely go for one of their other tours!
What a wonderful day we had in Washington Slagbaai National Park. Bas was already waiting for us early in the morning at our apartment, and we started the day with a hike to some fantastic blow holes in the park. Bas is an endless source of knowledge about the birds, animals, and plants we encountered, and he also has extensive knowledge about the history of Bonaire and the park.
In addition to all the beauty we saw, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at Playa Funchi and went snorkeling at Wayhka. From our perspective, it was a super well-organized tour with everything taken care of, and we lacked nothing. A definite recommendation! We would never have seen so much beauty or received so much information about nature if we had gone on our own.
Thank you, HopiBonaire!
The three of us spent a whole day with Bas from HopiBonaire. It was a fantastic day at Washington Slagbaai National Park. We drove, hiked, and snorkeled, and Bas has wonderful stories that make the day even more beautiful. We visited places you wouldn’t see otherwise, which makes it extra special. So, if you’re looking for a truly great, sincere, and enjoyable guide…… book with HopiBonaire.
Oh, and he also takes stunning photos that he even sends to you.
What an amazing experience the photography tour was! I was picked up right on time in a comfortable and off-road capable vehicle. The atmosphere was friendly, and I felt at ease immediately.
I enjoyed a beautiful sunrise and received various great tips to capture even more stunning photos. The guide possesses a lot of knowledge and experience in photography, the island, and visiting the right places at the right time.
Every detail was taken care of, from coffee, cookies, and delicious homemade muffins to refreshments. The tour excels in every aspect. Even my broken flip-flops were fixed.
It’s the perfect tour to see a lot of the island, learn, and capture beautiful photos in pleasant company. The price-quality ratio is excellent.
Thank you for the wonderful day filled with new impressions: very personal and away from the crowds and standard trips. Bas has a great deal of knowledge about the history and landscapes of Bonaire and shares it with great pleasure. Additionally, he is a skilled photographer, so beautiful memories are guaranteed. The delicious lunch and drinks complete the experience perfectly. Best of luck with your adventure on Bonaire!
Bas made our tour through Slagbaai an unforgettable and wonderful adventure for us and the kids.
Right from the moment we booked the tour from the Netherlands, we had a good feeling about Bas. He responded almost immediately to our message and enthusiastically inquired about our preferences through the app. Even in Bonaire itself, everything was well-organized; we received a message with pickup details a few days in advance, and on the day itself, he arrived even before the agreed time. That’s what we like!
One of the things we loved about Bas is that he not only has a wealth of knowledge about everything we saw during the tour, but he also actively engaged Jurre and Sven (9 years old) throughout the trip. He asked them questions at their own level, made information tangible, and even took them on a special mini-excursion to spot iguanas while we enjoyed the view and a delicious Bastogne cookie 😉
Furthermore, this tour was fantastic because:
– We discovered all the beautiful spots of the park at our own pace.
– We gained a treasure trove of information about the island and the national park.
– We could stop wherever we wanted (on the way back, we even stopped at a supermarket the boys wanted to visit).
– We were treated to a delightful lunch with homemade pasta salad, a beer, and hot dog buns for the boys.
– He took both above and underwater photos of us, which he promptly sent to us.
– His enthusiasm for the island allowed us to see much more than we had initially booked.
– Bas is just excellent company, and he does everything to ensure it’s a fantastic day.
Once again, thanks for the incredibly fun day. If we visit the island again, we will definitely book with you again!
Let me start by saying my son and I were thoroughly pleased with our tour with HopiBonaire (Bas).
I am a 28 years old female and this is my first time in a new country with my 6 year old son and we’re staying on a resort (Chogogo Dive & Beach Resort).
I contacted many different tour companies and HopiBonaire was the first and only company to communicate back to me and in a timely manner. Not only did I receive a welcome email I also received a call from Bas who sounded just as excited as I was for this adventure. Of course I was still a bit weary but I did do my research on all social media platforms, the country’s website, as well as with my front desk staff at my resort and everything checked out.
From start to finish beginning with efficient communication Bas and his wife were so kind, accommodating, very knowledgeable, and very patient. Most of all I felt safe! My son felt comfortable with Bas to walk with him and ask him many questions!! He kindly took our pictures when we asked and sometimes even used his own professional camera. This tour was from 7am to just about noontime by the time he dropped us off to our resort. The best day so far here on Bonaire full of adventure, definitely worth every cent! The viewpoints were all STUNNING 😍!
When I get good service I make sure I take the time to write a review that’s the least I can do to help the next person/family who visits this historically rich country and wants to explore the island beyond the resort. If I ever visit Bonaire in the future I know who to contact for sure and I’d recommend HopiBonaire to everyone!!
The Gems of the East tour was absolutely incredible. My guides, Bas and Jessica, were so fun and knowledgeable. I loved learning about the rich history of this part of the island, seeing the wildlife, and watching the sea. I can’t wait to visit the island again soon and take about her fabulous tour with Hopi Bonaire.
Ohhhh, Bonaire is so versatile. I would have never dared to explore the extraordinary rugged Gems of the East without Bas and Jessica. They know exactly where to go and where not to go, taking you to the truly undiscovered spots along that remarkable east coast. And how extraordinary the East Coast is, you will hear during the tour.
If, like me, you have an insatiable curiosity, HopiBonaire is the place to be. They provided well-founded answers to all my questions about nature, rocks, coral, and the history of the area, with extra tidbits of information as a bonus. And since the tours are private, there’s plenty of flexibility to tailor the experience to your own curiosity. If you’re more into peculiar nature, they’ll take you to strange and unique spots. If you want to see birds, they’ll go birdwatching. If you’re interested in the geographical wonders of the East Coast, they’ll guide you through caves adorned with ancient drawings.
So do yourself a favor and book a delightful (and well-catered) tour with Hopi.
Excellent private tour. Our guides Jessica and Bas were incredibly knowledgeable and gave us a fantastic day in Bonaire. We particularly appreciated the fact that they took great care to ensure that we saw all the features of the island that we wanted to visit.
We would totally recommend HopiBonaire!
Last week, I had the opportunity to join HopiBonaire on the Pearls of the East tour. I sent a last-minute message and was lucky enough to join the same afternoon. Excellent service!
The tour was more than worth it. I got to see several extraordinary places on the island: the old plantation Bolivia, caves with rock paintings, a coastal blowhole, and various wildlife. And of course, a beautiful view from the top of the hill, with a cold beer. The guide had plenty of interesting information about all the places, plants, animals, and nature.
Thank you for this fantastic afternoon. I look back on this day in Bonaire with wonderful memories!
We’ve had the BEST time with Bas! Bas is super knowledgeable and great company! He knows his way inside and outside the water and is an amazing photographer. We also loved the home made lunch and eye for detail. We’ve had the best time! Thanks Bas for the great time!!
I did the Off-Road East Bonaire tour with Bas. What an experience and what a wealth of information we received. About the origin and history of Bonaire, the animal and plant life, and much more.
It was a fantastic adventure with a passionate and enjoyable guide!! The tour was even an exciting experience with lots of new information for my son, who has been living here for a few years. Check out his other tours too! Highly recommended!!!
A couple of days we had the pleasure of joining Jessica and bas on a journey through the “real” Bonaire. It’s incredible how much there is to see!
Both of them are true nature enthusiasts, which is contagious. Their knowledge about all the creatures is astonishing. Seeing Bonaire with them was an absolute joy in every aspect and on every face. They have such extensive knowledge and stories about the history of Bonaire!
Dear, trustworthy people with a great passion for the Caribbean, especially for Bonaire, which in our eyes is truly THE island to be seen. Just ask them, and they will drive and guide you wherever you want to go. The unknown becomes familiar, and the amazement and wonder only grow. Bonaire has so much to offer!!! By going on a tour with them, “doors” of Bonaire open that my mother and I would never have discovered on our own.
We are enthusiastic, and actually, that is an understatement because we are not doing justice to what they have shown us and what they have to tell. Seeing Bonaire in just 3 days is impossible, that’s our conclusion! If you’re going to Bonaire, we highly recommend getting in touch with HopiBonaire.
Warm greetings from Joke and Ingrid
We thoroughly enjoyed an excellent private photography tour with a top guide! What a fantastic morning we had. Highly recommended for anyone who loves nature and photography! Once again, thank you Bas for an amazing morning!
Don’t hesitate! Just book it. You won’t regret it, but you’ll create beautiful memories!
Dannie and I joined Bas for the National Park Washington-Slagbaai tour.
Bas is a pleasant and friendly man with extensive knowledge about everything related to Bonaire: the formation of the land, the population, flora and fauna, and geographic factors. He tells interesting stories and facts about the island.
Since it’s a private tour, the day was relaxed. Bas adjusted to our pace. No rushing, no “be back at the car in 5 minutes.” This allows Bonaire to receive the attention it deserves.
We visited stunning places on land and in the water that we wouldn’t have easily discovered on our own. Food and drinks were well taken care of, and we didn’t miss anything. Bas also takes beautiful photos of all the unique birds we spotted (with his great assistance; he hears and sees everything!).
All of this made the day fly by. We look back on a wonderful and enjoyable day!
Thanks again, Bas!
We booked an amazing custom-made tour. Bas and Jessica passionately share their knowledge about Bonaire and show you places that you wouldn’t get to see on regular tours. It was a beautiful and personal experience where every detail was taken care of. Absolutely top-notch!
Through friends, we heard about the tours of Bas and Jessica. These friends were very enthusiastic, so we booked “The Magical North” tour. This resulted in a beautiful, educational, and amazing excursion. The word “Magic” did its job.
With Bas as our guide, we had a fantastic tour. He knows a lot about the ins and outs of the island and showed us the most beautiful spots with stunning views. Furthermore, we spotted many special birds, including theOsprey, Caracara, Parakeet, Parrot, hummingbird and various thrushers.
The service was also excellent: we started with coffee/tea and some treats. Later in the morning, we enjoyed delicious fresh fruit, sultanas, and homemade iced tea. In short, it was a wonderful morning with a very pleasant guide (Bas) who shared fascinating stories.
If you are still hesitating, don’t do it, just book. It is definitely more than worth it.
Through our hotel, we were tipped off about Bas & Jessica from Hopi Bonaire. They could show us Slagbaai National Park, completely tailored to our needs. And it turned out to be true. Bas happened to have time to take us out the next day. It was a tour in his beautiful new car, with everything that we found most enjoyable.
Bas has extensive knowledge of Bonaire’s history and shares interesting facts while driving. We went snorkeling at beautiful spots, had lunch (deliciously prepared by Jessica), and Bas showed us the most stunning viewpoints. He even took photos of us snorkeling with his underwater camera, and one of them now hangs prominently in our home!
We are thrilled that we booked this tour in Bonaire. We could have driven it ourselves with a rental car, but then we wouldn’t have learned all the fascinating tidbits about the island and wouldn’t have known exactly where to go.
It’s definitely worth repeating, and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun day out in Bonaire!
We were picked up promptly by Bas. After safely storing our bags, we got into the car with our cameras at the ready. After a brief discussion about the route to take, we quickly set off.
The first stop was a beautiful landscape overlooking the sea, with a presumably stunning sunrise that was unfortunately hidden behind the clouds. On the bright side, it provided more opportunities with softer backlighting. After receiving some tips and tricks from Bas, we continued to the next stop, the blowhole. We found a nice spot on a dry patch of rock and observed and photographed the crashing waves. It was mostly a matter of patience and keeping our cameras at the ready.
Next, we were taken to a field of melon cacti, where the backlighting created a red glow through the spines, which we captured well. Here, we were treated to coffee, tea, and a cookie. Bas also shared more tips and tricks for capturing the scene effectively. Along the way to the next location, we came across a beautiful lake with some flamingos and adorable goats that had taken ownership of a stone meter box.
We then clicked away at an old plantation and hobbled to the lighthouse through prickly bush paths, riding a cute little donkey. The last stretch had to be done on foot. Here, we positioned ourselves in the shadow of the lighthouse, aligning the sun perfectly behind it. The old house of the former lighthouse keeper was also quite picturesque. We played with shadows and reflections and then enjoyed a refreshing drink and a bowl of fruit. We took a moment to relax on the chairs we brought along. The service was top-notch!
And then, unfortunately, it was already over. We were dropped off back at our accommodation and had to say goodbye to Bas. It was a very successful, incredibly enjoyable, and educational morning. We saw only places we hadn’t seen before.
A day out with Hopi Bonaire
At the agreed time, Jessica and Bas picked us up from the hotel in their very comfortable and luxurious pickup truck. We set off for Slagbaai National Park, which was about a half-hour drive from the hotel. Slagbaai National Park is a nature reserve with a stunning rugged coastline and incredible flora and fauna. Jessica and Bas showed us the most beautiful sights and stopped for photo opportunities of unique bird species, about which Bas shared his knowledge. Of course, the flamingos were not to be missed on this wonderful tour.
In the middle of the afternoon, a delicious lunch was provided, after which we continued to a beautiful beach for snorkeling. Even underwater, Bonaire is gorgeous! The day was well taken care of with snacks, drinks, and a delightful lunch. Everything was thought of.
We give this day a solid 10, and we highly recommend going on one of Jessica and Bas’s well-organized tours, such as Slagbaai National Park.
In late February, we did an eastern tour with Bas from Hopi Bonaire. We didn’t really know what to expect, but it turned out to be a super fun journey where Bas took the time for us and shared fascinating information about Bonaire, its landscape (formation), and the animals that live there.
We saw many sights, including Landhuis Washikemba, the blowhole, the beautiful Spelonkgrot with its Indian drawings, and the lighthouse of the same name, which involved a nice climb up Bara di Karta.
On January 31st, we had a guided tour of Slagbaai with Bas and Jessica, which was a lot of fun and allowed us to see a lot in just one day.
They picked us up in their pickup truck and drove us to the National Park, where we had a beautiful hike with lots of explanations about trees, plants, animals, and history. It was enjoyable being with them, and we had a delicious lunch. With their binoculars, we spotted many birds and even got up close to flamingos.
We also had the opportunity to snorkel at a stunning spot, and Bas took underwater photos, which turned out to be incredibly beautiful. 🐟💟🐠
We highly recommend taking a trip with them. Thank you both for the wonderful and enjoyable day! 👍❣
If you want to see a different side of Bonaire instead of the regular tours, then Hopi Bonaire is the right choice. We had a great time!
Early in the morning, Bas and Jessica were ready to take us on a journey of discovery. After a beautiful climb to the top with a breathtaking view, we enjoyed a coffee break, followed by a tour along the north and east side of Bonaire.
Bas and Jessica have extensive knowledge of Bonaire and its nature. Since we started early, we spotted many birds that you wouldn’t easily see during the hotter hours.
We even had the chance to be “reborn” in the Bonairian way. It was a lot of fun.
The whole morning was perfectly organized, very enjoyable, and definitely worth repeating. So, you’ll see us again next time!
