Do you also visit the popular tourist attractions?
Certainly! We stand out by exploring Bonaire’s hidden gems, but we also make stops at the beautiful locations along paved roads during our tours. Even in those moments, we strive to steer clear of the crowds whenever possible. This way, we admire places like Lake Goto and Rincon not only from the “usual” viewpoints.
In our tour descriptions, you’ll find the places we visit. If you’d like to deviate from that, please let us know – we’re more than happy to accommodate your preferences!
Think you’ve seen it all in Bonaire? Explore our Gems of the East tour. During this tour, we immediately venture off the beaten path to discover stunning spots along the east coast that even many locals aren’t aware of!
How many people can join the tour?
We conduct our private tours in spacious pick-up trucks with good air conditioning. We can store plenty of equipment in the back. The vehicles have three seats in the back, and one guest can sit next to the driver.
When going off-road, the vehicle may shake significantly on some roads. Having three adults in the back seat may be less comfortable. If in doubt, please contact us.
Tours for up to four people can be reserved on our website. If you want to tour with 5 to 8 people, please contact us. We do not conduct tours with more than 8 people.
Can I tag along on a tour?
Our guests choose private tours to explore the island exclusively with their guide and their own group. This way, they can decide the program and pace, ensuring the best possible experience. For this reason, it’s not possible to tag along on one of our tours.
HopiBonaire is one of the few (private) tour companies on Bonaire that welcomes solo travelers. We are happy to go on a tour with you alone.
Are the tours safe?
Our tours have an adventurous nature. When embarking on an adventure, it is understood that there is a certain level of risk involved. We consider it our responsibility to keep these risks as low as possible, and we do so in the following ways:
- As passengers in our pick-up truck, our guests are insured in the event of a traffic accident.
- We advise our guests to obtain comprehensive travel insurance.
- We hold a first aid certification and will provide first aid in case of accidents.
- During the tour, our guests set the pace. They do not need to put themselves in unsafe situations to keep up with us.
- We are aware of areas where accidents can easily occur, and we promptly inform our guests about these risks.
- We tailor the tour program to our guests. If there are activities that they feel uncomfortable with, we provide alternative options.
- Before entering the water, we assess with our guests what they feel safe and comfortable with. We offer the use of flotation devices for better buoyancy. Additionally, we have an inflatable rescue buoy for added safety.
What do I need during the tour?
We kindly ask you to bring your own water bottle. We will ensure that you can refill it during the tour. Additionally, please bring closed-toe shoes (in addition to your slippers if you prefer them). Not all areas on Bonaire are suitable for slippers. We will take care of the rest.
We recommend that you obtain comprehensive travel insurance.
If you plan to visit Washington-Slagbaai or go snorkeling during the tour, please bring the following:
- Swimwear
- Towel
- Water shoes
- Stinapa Nature Tag + ID
If you don’t have snorkeling gear, you can rent it from us.

Can I cancel in case of bad weather?
There is nothing as unpredictable as the weather on Bonaire. Bad weather is therefore not a valid reason for cancellation.
If you decide to cancel within 72 hours of the agreed tour start due to rain, weather forecasts, or weather conditions, we will be forced to charge cancellation fees, as described in our payment page and in our Terms and Conditions.
Can you cancel?
HopiBonaire is a small and specialized tour company, which allows us to provide personal attention and a high degree of flexibility.
Unfortunately, this small scale and the specialized nature of our tours bring some vulnerability. If a guide becomes ill or the vehicle breaks down at the last minute, we do not have the capacity to provide a replacement guide or engage another tour company. Of course, we will do our best to offer a suitable solution, such as rescheduling the tour.
It is extremely rare for us to have to cancel a tour, but we want to be transparent about our limitations.
How do you handle the time difference?
We are accustomed to living in a different time zone. In our communication, we always refer to the time in the location of our guests. For example, if we mention that we will provide a proposal in the evening, it refers to the evening where you live.
